    Virginia Ann Haufler is Associate Professor in the Department of Government and Politics at the University of Maryland, and an Associate of the Center for International Development and Conflict Management. She currently is Co-Director of GVPT Global, the center for global education in her Department. 

    She created and served as Director of the Global Communities Living-Learning Program, a two-year global studies program for entering freshmen. She also served as Director of Women in Network Development for her Department, and as a member of the Advisory Council for the Center for the Study of Business Ethics, Regulation and Crime—an interdisciplinary center on campus.

    She was a Visiting Fellow at McGill University in Fall 2022, holding the Joint Chair in Contemporary Public Policy under a Fulbright Canada-PETF Fellowship. She currently serves on the Board of the non-profit Women in International Security and as a panelist for the Ethics of Engagement project at the Sie Center, University of Denver. She has been a visiting scholar at UC-Irvine and USC, and a Senior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. She earned her Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in Government from Cornell University, and dual B.A. degrees from the Pennsylvania State University.

    Her research focuses on the globalization of business and the challenges of global governance, particularly the dynamics of private regulatory systems and corporate social responsibility. She has presented her work nationally and internationally, and her publications are widely cited. She has lent her expertise as a consultant to international organizations, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.
